Mont Sainte Odile by electric bike: mountains, forests and vineyards
Mont Sainte Odile Abbey by bike
Mont Sainte-Odile can be reached from Barr with an electrically-assisted bicycle via a mostly forested itinerary. After the ascent, in the shade, take time for a refreshment at the abbey, visit the “grandes terrasses” and its exceptional viewpoints (you’ll have Alsace at your feet). After the descent, still in the shade, you return to the vineyards and their charming landscapes.

What on the bike route to Mont Sainte Odile
Mont Sainte Odile abbey
Overlooking the Alsace plain, Mont Sainte-Odile is home to an abbey founded in the 7th century, dedicated to Saint Odile, patron saint of Alsace. People flock here for its peaceful atmosphere, panoramic views over the region and the sacredness of its religious history. One of the region’s most beautiful spots, accessible by bike from Barr.
Villages to discover on the cycle route
HEILIGENSTEIN
Heiligenstein is a typical Alsatian village perched high in the vineyards overlooking the plain. It owes its fame to Klevener, an exceptional white wine grown only here in Alsace.
BARR
Barr is a pleasant town, wrongly neglected by tourists, which has nothing to envy its neighbors. The city center is magnificent and well-presented, without falling into the excesses of tourism. Barr is ideal for a gastronomic break, a wine tasting or simply a drink on the terrace.
The Vosges forest and Alsace vineyards
If you have to make a little effort to cycle this route, you won’t be disappointed by what it has to offer. The climb through the forest is pleasant and the atmosphere peaceful (limestone flora followed by sandstone). After the descent, you come back to the Alsatian vineyards and their open landscape. This route is a good mix for nature-lovers.
